This signature self-paced course has been specifically tailored to empower faith leaders with the skills and competency to grow their adaptive capacity, so they can foster growth, understanding, and resilience within their teams, churches and organizations

The adaptive leadership skills you will develop:

  3. Ability to disrupt the leadership default to old best practices.

  5. Self-assess using the markers of Adaptive Capacity

The course is made up of 4 Modules with 15 lessons.

Each lesson includes:

  • Reflection prompts for deeper comprehension.

  • Practical applications to enrich team dynamics and outcomes.

Upon completing the Adaptive Capacity Leadership Course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to start leading effectively in an increasingly changing world.

Once completed, participants receive a preferential rate on a consultation session with an AESL coach of your choice to process the course, learn how to better implement what you learned into your leadership, and ask any remaining questions. .

Module 1- Adaptive Change Leaders: From Expert to Experimenter

  • 1.1: Intro + Lead the Learning

    • The learner will be able to develop the skills and strategies to effectively lead the learning process within organizations, fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptability.

    1.2: Technical Problems vs. Adaptive Challenges

    • The learner will be able to distinguish between technical problems and adaptive challenges and apply appropriate leadership strategies to address each in their respective contexts.

  • 1.3: Observations, Interpretations, and Interventions

    • The learner will be able to effectively observe and gather data, interpret complex situations, and design and implement appropriate interventions to address adaptive challenges within organizations.

  • 1.4: Balcony and Dance Floor

    • The learner will be able to skillfully navigate between the "balcony" and "dance floor" perspectives, gaining the ability to step back and gain a broader view of situations while also engaging in the day-to-day activities and challenges of leadership.

  • 1.5: Disrupt default interventions

    • The learner will be able to critically examine and disrupt default interventions in leadership, challenging conventional approaches and fostering innovative and adaptive strategies to address adaptive challenges

Module 2- Developing Adaptive Capacity: From Problem Solver to Process Leader 

  • 2.1 Name and navigate competing values

    • The learner will be able to recognize and articulate competing values within their organizations and develop strategies to navigate and reconcile these values to effectively lead and manage adaptive change.

  • 2.2 Understand the markers of Adaptive Capacity

    • The learner will be able to know, identify and apply the markers of adaptive capacity to their organizations and teams.

  • 2.3 How anxiety leads to default technical solutions

    • The learner will be able to recognize how anxiety can drive the inclination towards default technical solutions and learn strategies to address and navigate anxiety in order to effectively address adaptive challenges.

  • 2.4 Distinguish between trust and transformation

    • The learner will be able to differentiate between the concepts of trust and transformation, understand their distinct roles in leadership, and apply strategies to build trust while navigating transformative change.

Module 3- Leading the Learning/ Accompanying through Loss: From Predicting to Prototyping  

  • 3.1 Building Prototypes

    • The learner will be able to construct and test prototypes as a means of experimenting, learning, and adapting in changing environments

  • 3.2 Creating safety for learning and failing

    • The learner will be able to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals and teams can take risks, embrace experimentation, and learn from prototypes, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

  • 3.3 Utilizing attunement to accelerate change.

    • The learner will be able to effectively apply attunement as a leadership skill to understand and empathize with the perspectives of stakeholders, build trust, and accelerate the pace of change within their organizations.

Module 4- Being the Anvil for Tempered Resilience: From Opposing Resistance to Embracing Resilience

    • The learner will be able to accurately define and identify instances of sabotage within their organizations, enabling them to effectively address and mitigate actions that hinder adaptive change processes.
